To provide delegates with the knowledge and practical skills to safely operate and maintain a hoist, delivered through a combination of classroom-based tutorials and practical training and exercises.

- Roles and responsibilities as a plant / equipment operator
- Hoist components, construction, controls and terminology
- Regulations, legislation and Codes of Practice relating to lifting duties
- Hoist pre-use checks for stability, alignment and safety including running checks and emergency lowering functions
- Awareness of overhead services and other hazards
- Understand the capabilities, purposes and limitations of the equipment
- Preparing the hoist for the required loads
- Loading and unloading of materials following manual handling requirements
- The capabilities of each machine, its purpose and limitations
- All safety precautions necessary for the correct operation of the machine
- Signalling and instructions
- Placing the hoist in an out-of-service condition, isolate and secure
- CPCS theory & practical tests
- Theory Test - sample questions
- Practical Test - sample assessment
Potential and existing operators who have received no formal instruction and those requiring refresher training.
Pre-requisites
You must have a basic understanding and knowledge of current Health & Safety issues. The relevant CITB Health Safety & Environment touchscreen test must be current and in date (completed within the last 24 months).
Failure to arrive on the course with the relevant test completed and in date, will result in your not being permitted to undertake the exams at the end of the course. No refund will be given for exams cancelled as a result of you not having the relevant test completed.
